Birth Control For Jesus

Okay, I can’t not say this. I was watching a Republican woman on MSNBC talking about the Blunt Amendment. (The Blunt Amendment is an amendment that will grant ANY business, private or public to refuse to cover birth control for pretty much any reason. All they have to say is they have a “moral” objection to it).

As I am watching this lady she says, and I quote. “Forcing companies to cover birth control goes against 2000 years of religious doctrine.”

This is the kind of stupidity that is damaging to our country. There was no birth control 2000 years ago. So no one was forcing anyone to do anything regarding birth control 2000 years ago, or even 75 years ago).

The Catholic Church weighing in on it is also ridiculous. They have no purview for this since birth control is not mentioned anywhere in the bible or was even around then. This is just an attempt by a male-led organization, (the Catholic Church) to assert their control over women’s bodies. That is the bottom line here.

And we have separation of church and state. Anti-abortion laws, and laws against contraception are religious doctrine and have no place in our politics. At all. Also, it isn’t ALL religions that have tried to outlaw birth control, it is the Catholics, mainstream and evangelical. Do we really want religious laws on the books that come from a very tiny minority of the country? When are we going to put Jewish religious laws on the books? How about Islamic religious laws on the books? If you do it for one, you have to do it for all. That is one of the things America is supposed to stand for: Fairness

Not to mention the fact that 98% of Catholic women have used birth control and 99% of the women in this country have used it as well. They can’t even get Catholics to give up birth control. Why do they think they can project that on the rest of the country when they can’t even keep their own in line?

In this country, 52% of the people are women and 99% have used birth control. All the Democrats have to do is get all of the women to vote for them and they win every election without any other demographic ever being involved.

At this point in time, there are several generations of women that have always had access to birth control. These are young women that will be voting for up to the next 50+ years. If the Republican Party gets the reputation that they want to get rid of contraceptives, (and they absolutely do), they will get very little of the female vote. Remember, 52% of the electorate are women.

This isn’t the only group they are alienating either, but it would take several articles to cover all of the groups. Suffice it to say they are pretty much alienating every group except their rabid fringe base.

Trying to take away women’s rights is political suicide. If the Republicans don’t do an about-face, and soon, they will be out of power for generations and might disappear completely.
